Back To School Safety Tips

Lots of kids and families are preparing to head back to school right now for the start of a new school year at least "up here" where we live in the US, Canada and Europe. For those of you who aren't going back to school right now, or those of you that Homeschool, these tips can still keep your child safer today than yesterday.

Back To School families typically focus on new clothes, shoes, book bags and school supplies. That's great. We want to add in a "Back To School Safer" awareness to their list of things to remember. There are three immediate things parents can do, things you can teach your child, right away, today.
It's simply about education, knowledge and awareness, not paranoia.
So, when teaching these things to your child, keep a light-hearted approach and atmosphere.

We're endorsing a better awareness for kids and families, not fear.

The fact is, your child is going to be around new teachers, students, coaches, counselors and acquaintances when YOU Mom and Dad, are not around.
Your child needs an ability to keep themselves safe when they are out and about in today's world. There are a few things parents and kids can do together at home to make sure they are safer this year than ever before. First, teach your child to project confidence.
Confident kids are naturally less of a target for predators.

This means bullies at school, too.
A confident child is a child that stands tall, shoulders back, head high and with eyes alert to their environment.

This type of posture subconsciously projects a struggle, a notion of, "I'm not going to be that easy to pick on," to anyone looking for a victim.
Sad kids, those that look like they are unhappy, those with stooped shoulders and a shuffling gate, look like they are in need of a friend. We know many child predators like to befriend a child first, offer presents and kind words, and take their time patiently to lure a child into a friendship before they abuse or molest them. A big part of building confidence in your child is doing daily what we call, "Catch Them Being Good." It's easy for us as parents to notice the things our kids do wrong. But a short moment, noticing your child doing something right, and a "Hey, Sally, that was great!" goes much further in teaching your child to feel good about themselves in only seconds a day.

This is a big first step in solid confidence building and something you can easily do.
Second, teach your child to keep a safe distance from a stranger.

We call it a "Circle Of Safety" and it's about 15 feet. Your child can still talk to them at this distance but have time to react in case it's a bad stranger. Your child can turn and run and get safely away at this 15' distance.
For the most part, this is when your child is outdoors and finds themselves alone, like on a playground, on a sidewalk or in the yard, being approached by someone they don't know.

In school, when there are lots of other students and adults around, it's just something they should know.
Third, teach your child to listen to their "Belly Brain.
" This is the "gut reaction" we as adults have, that instinctively tells us something is not right.

Your child has it too.

We simply have to teach them they have it and then, to listen to it.
And, teach your child that their "Belly Brain" is never wrong.

Today, this is a critical skill for your child to have, especially for those kids surfing the Internet.

When your child reaches a website they shouldn't be on or stumbles upon one inadvertently, their "Belly Brain" is going to go off.

They need to know to get off that site when their stomach feels funny and signals them.
If your child ever finds themselves alone in a situation with an inappropriate adult or teenager, their "Belly Brain" is again going to go off. It is going to give them that "funny feeling" and when it happens, they need to know it is "OK" to feel that way and to leave the room or place they are immediately.
They need to know it is "OK" for them to find a trusted adult, you, and tell you about it. And, this includes surfing the Web.

We study the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) information to stay one step in front of child predators and they have some great Online Safety Tips.

Online predators troll for kids behind the anonymity of a user name and keyboard.
The Belly Brain can give your child an advantage in being able to take appropriate action if ever in a situation where any danger from predators threatens them.
These three Quick Tips are really just the tip of the personal child safety iceberg, but they are very effective.
They are also simple and easy and you can introduce and teach you child them in just minutes a day for a lifetime of results.

Pyramids and Cones in Mathematics Lessons

Mathematics teachers normally have a box of wooden or plastic shapes tucked deep in their cupboard of goodies that they bring out when teaching the theories of cones and pyramids, but mostly these are complete - right up to the sharp end.

There is a lot of mathematics in a cone or pyramid, of course, but in everyday life their use is limited. You will find ice cream cones and hanging baskets in the shape of a cone, but complete ones have to either be held in the hand, supported by strings or wires or stood on their bases, all of which rather restricts their use (unless you wish to purchase thousands of road works cones).

It is the same with pyramids. Again we are limited to hanging baskets and the like and unless you want to bury a pharaoh, they do not have a lot of use stood on their bases. Enter the truncated cone and pyramid.

In simple terms, a truncated cone or pyramid is a full one with the top removed.

If the cut is made parallel to the base, the shape is simply called 'truncated'. (If the cut is not parallel to the base it is called 'oblique truncated', but these shapes have even fewer uses in the construction of physical objects than the full shapes.
) But now we are into a wholly different ball game as truncated cones and pyramids are admirably suite to stacking and we see them everywhere.
Get your children to watch out for them in garden centres, crockery shops, DIY stores and so on.

A beautiful example is the type of drinking mugs that are sold with a small Easter egg.

They are normally well crafted in a truncated cone shape with a simple handle added.

I recently saw a metal dustbin (the sort used for burning papers, garden waste etc) in my local garden centre.

The main component was an upturned truncated cone with legs.

The lid was a short but wide truncated cone with two handles, one on each side to allow space for the chimney which was.
.

.you've guessed it! Cones with no points are also used for lamp shades, flower pots, fruit bowls, dove cotes, rocket engine nozzles and fez hats, to name but a few.
Truncated pyramids are found in concrete lampposts (a first glance may lead you to think these are prisms, but they normally reduce in cross sectional area as the height increases), concrete blocks at road works, office rubbish bins, lamp shades, wheelbarrows and a multitude of objects which consist of several joined together such as bird baths and fountains.

Finding the volume of a cone or pyramid is a great mathematical exercise and requires a calculator or a good knowledge of times tables.
If we imagine a prism surrounding the cone or pyramid and the same height, the volume is always one third of the volume of the prism, which gives us the formula V = Base Area x Height ÷3.

It is possible to find the volume of a truncated cone or pyramid using a more complex formula, but at GCSE level it is best to find the volume of the full shape and then subtract the volume of the piece that has been removed.

Toys and Hobbies - What Are the Popular Toys For Girls and Boys?

We are all growing old and definitely there are things that we would usually let go of.
For some, these are their toys and hobbies - they think that they are already done with it; however, for some people, this is the time to support their fondness for toys and their passion for doing what they love to do. What are the toys that the little boys would hope to play with, nowadays? If you happen to have sons or nephews, you would know that they are now fascinated with action figures - GI Joe, Bakugan, Star Wars, Batman, etc.
They'd love to play with the characters that they see in the movies. Somehow, the adults are also fascinated to have them for their own collection even when they no longer play with them.

Well, who wouldn't be? Indeed, they would really make wonderful souvenirs that you would really look forward to keep.

Many years from now, they would hopefully become vintage toys with more price value than when you originally bought them for.

For the little girls, the most popular must-have toy for them is Barbie. You've seen them play with those dolls, these little girls are really happy to play with them - dressing them up, do their hairs, and put on their shoes.

Wow, it seems like yesterday when you've had the chance to own a Barbie for yourself.

Now that you're all grown up, you would still want to have every Barbie collection on your shelf.
What about Lego toys? They are favorite toys that would be fitting for both sexes - boys and girls.
These are all-time favorite toys that are not only fun to play with but they can stimulate the brain as well. These are toys that are really suitable to be given as presents.

Sometimes it's a good thing to give in to your childish wishes for toys and hobbies once in a while.
Keep yourself updated with the latest toys on sale from your favorite toy stores online.

How to Survive Flying With Your Kids!

Flying is known to most as the fastest way to travel, but to parents it can be known as the toughest way to travel with their kids. Children find it difficult to sit for hours with little to do but find clever ways to aggravate their parents.

Kids have lots of energy and creativity that needs to find an avenue of release, and flying in an airplane cramps up all of that energy.
There is one answer to all of the problems related to traveling with your kids.

Bring your laptop computer! After an airplane reaches cruising altitude, laptops are included on a short list of electronics that can be used. Laptop computers contain multiple options of entertainment for children of all ages.
1. In-flight movies aren't always the most convenient for children.

They don't play continuously and you end up having to wait for a good one to show. You can't pause the film if your kids have to use the restroom or eat a meal.
Bring a few DVDs to play in your laptop, and don't forget the headset! Your kids will enjoy watching a great G-rated film when they want, and also take breaks when they want.

2.

Before you travel with your children, download a few free online games from their favorite flash game websites. The games are not only free, but they can be played without an internet connection. There are tons of categories to choose from, including action games and adventure games.

These fun games will keep your kids entertained for hours! 3. Download some of your children's favorite music onto your laptop.

They can listen to it through headphones and no one else will hear it. Listening to music will help keep you children entertained and calm at the same time.
Research shows that listening to music helps to relax the mind and nurture creativity.
If you are planning a trip in the future that includes both airplanes and children, don't forget to bring your laptop loaded with entertainment to help you survive flying with your kids.

Invest in a spare battery for the device.

It will be well worth it!

Sales of Tablet PC Shows Impact on PC Market

According to the report of US IT website Businessinsider, the latest sales statistics show that panel computer has certain impact on consumer PC market while industry insiders used to think that tablet would not threat PC market.

By January 31, 2011, Hewlett Packard has slipped 11% on customer PC sales while business PC sales climb 12%, showed the latest statistics. Meantime, Dell dropped 8% with its customer PC in the last quarter of 2010 as in comparison with the previous quarter. Nonetheless, Dell still is favored by many leading corporations.

With regard to Microsoft, it increased by 3% through carrying with Windows system of new PC in the last quarter of 2010.
Microsoft did not compare consumer PCs to commercial PCs on their windows system, but the corp.

implied that the update of cycle commercial PCs is driving Windows sale growing.
It also admitted that sale of netbook has a slight drop compared to the last year.

This kind of micro-computer used to be very popular for inexpensive cost during 2008 and 2009.

Is consumer PC market impacted by broad trends in the economy or consumers do not spend any money on new products to save their cash? Obviously, it's not.

According to report, Apple's iPad were sold 7.3 million and sale of Mac also increased by 23%.

The release of Windows 8 will promote a new wave of commercial PC based on past experience.
As we can see, sometimes experience can not explain everything. There was once a time, Microsoft was not competitive at all during the period of releasing new products. Whenever Windows 8 releases, however, some potential customers of iPad, Android or other tablet PC would not buy new PC with Windows system carried. At the present, customer PC's update cycle is disorganized.
Therefore, Hewlett-Packard is developing non-Window system carried tablet PC. The related integrated circuit is HAT1000-S.

Youth Leadership: Want to Discover More About Yourself? Want to Initiate Change in the World?

Do you believe that even the littlest of actions can have huge consequences? Then youth leadership is right for you! In life, there are some of us who follow quietly in others footsteps, and yet there are others who " Do not follow where the path may lead, but go instead where there's no path, and leave a trail," Harold R.
Mc Alindon. Youth leadership is a process in which we, the youth take, initiative, authority and accountability over ourselves and among others. It is a development process that provokes and encourages personal growth and acquisition of new and existing skills, to engage others to participate regardless of their background, race, sex.

Good leadership does not judge, but recognizes the strengths in which every individual possesses and builds upon these.
A great way to get started in becoming a great youth leader, is to first sit back and assess yourself. An army is only as good, or as bad, as the commander that leads them.

Ask yourself, are you the person you want to be? Are you actively involved within your community? What qualities do you have to offer? Once you've completed your own personal assessment then you are ready to acknowledge your strengths and offer them to others.
The second trait of a good leader is, "to be slow to punish, but swift to reward, " Ovid.

This is the basis theory for positive re-enforcement training. It rewards desired actions, while not punishing, but rather, ignoring undesirable actions in order to get the results one seeks. This method is used widely for a variety of training purposes and limited not only to the human world, but the principles are used in the animal kingdom as well and are common practices in aquariums, and dog training facilities.
This association is the most simple and basic principle and is relevant in nature and comprehensible to all forms of life.

Now..
. where to get started? Not sure what to do next? Check out joining an organization or youth group in order to learn, improve and develop great youth leadership skills.

An organization, camp, or youth program is a great first step in becoming a great youth leader; check out organizations such as: Big Brothers and Sisters, Rotary Groups, Scouts, Boys and Girls Club, 4H Clubs, and more! There a variety of options available to youth that encourage and promote the personal growth of young entrepreneurs and youth today! Check out the local resources in your area, or.

.

don't have an organization that offers the services you'd like to promote? Overview Of The Logitech MX518

With the release of World of Warcraft: Cataclysm and the much awaited Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty more people are becoming immersed in the online gaming world than ever before. One thing is for sure, it's getting harder and harder to stand out of the crowd. If you want to be competitive you need the best equipment.
One piece of computer gear that I always recommend having by your side is the Logitech MX518.

Let's have a look at a few of the features of the MX518 below.

The Logitech MX518 is a high performance optical gaming mouse.
It has a massive 1800 dpi allowing you to have pinpoint accuracy for just about any game you want to play.

One of the great features of this mouse is that you can actually change to dpi in-game.

Meaning if you want to slow down to get a precise fix on a target you can do that, then increase the dpi again at the touch of a button.

The MX518 features eight buttons in total.
This includes the scroll wheel which is common for most mice these days.
The buttons are all programmable so you can design your own macros for each game you play.

The mouse is sculpted to fit the shape of your palm. There's no need to worry about getting fatigued during game play, even after lengthy periods of time.
One of my favourite games is Lord of the Rings Online. This game can involve some heavy combat missions. Even at such a high intensity the mouse will never feel awkward in your hand.
